When a person experiences dramatic weight loss, it is typically accompanied by loose sagging skin. The aging process results in loose skin, and after pregnancy, a woman can also end up with sagging skin on various parts of her party. Pockets of excess stubborn fat can also come about as a result of these factors.
Body contouring is an umbrella term for cosmetic surgical procedures that sculpt areas of the body to restore well-defined curves. These procedures are suitable for those who have excess sagging skin and stubborn fat that just won’t go away.
A number of body-contouring procedures are available. A tummy tuck, for example, is performed to remove excess skin and excess fat from the stomach, helping to create a flat tummy. Liposuction can be used to remove excess fat from areas like the thighs and hips, and an arm lift can be helpful to get rid of extra skin and fat from the arms.
Tummy Tuck
Also known as an abdominoplasty, a tummy tuck is used to contour the abdomen. Drooping abdominal skin will be trimmed away during this procedure, and excess fat will be eliminated. Dr. Morwood also repositions and tightens the muscles. The combined effect of all these adjustments creates a lean and fit look for the stomach.
Liposuction
Liposuction is a procedure used to remove fat from the body. It can be performed on a variety of areas, including the knees, back, chest, buttocks, stomach, thighs, and arms.
During this procedure, Dr. Morwood uses a tool called a cannula. A cannula is a thin hollow tube with a blunt end. This allows the vessels and nerves to be brushed aside and preserved while the stubborn fat cells are suctioned away, reducing the area in volume.
Brachioplasty
Upper arms sag over time, creating the appearance of “bat wings.” Brachioplasty, or an arm lift, is used to remove excess skin and fat from the upper arms. This helps to contour the arms, bringing them in better proportion with the rest of the body.
The Surgical Session
During a consultation with Dr. Morwood, body-contouring procedures will be planned out depending on the needs of the patient. The areas where contouring is required will be taken into account.
Over the course of a single surgical session, multiple body-contouring procedures may be carried out. This allows for a single recovery period rather than multiple periods of downtime.
Once the session is complete, a degree of post-surgical bruising and swelling is present. Wearing post-surgical elastic compression garments helps to control these issues and allows the skin to fit the contours of the body more tightly. After the healing process is complete, patients look younger and in better shape.
